How to Care for New Window Tint

Window Tint Care Guide Riverside CA — C&D's Tint Lab

The first rule of new window tint: Do not roll down your windows for at least 3 to 5 days. The adhesive needs time to cure, and rolling the windows down prematurely can cause the film to peel or snag on the weather stripping.

Why New Tint Looks Hazy or Has Bubbles — And Why That's Normal

When you pick up your car from C&D's Tint Lab, you might notice that the windows look slightly cloudy, hazy, or have tiny water bubbles trapped under the film. Don't panic—this is a completely normal part of the curing process. Window film is applied using a water and soap solution. While we squeegee out as much moisture as possible, a microscopic layer remains. As the film sits in the sun, it breathes, allowing that remaining moisture to evaporate. The haze and bubbles will disappear on their own.

What to Avoid in the First 30 Days

While the initial critical period is 3-5 days, the film can take up to 30 days to fully cure. During this time:

    • Do not clean the inside of the windows. Let the film bond undisturbed.
    • Avoid sticking anything to the glass. Suction cups, stickers, or dash cam mounts can pull the film away from the glass.
    • Don't pick at the edges. If you see a slight imperfection, let the shop know; trying to press it down yourself can worsen it.

How to Clean Window Tint Without Damaging It

Once the curing period is over, you'll need to clean your windows eventually. The golden rule is to never use ammonia-based cleaners (like traditional Windex). Ammonia breaks down the adhesive and causes the tint to turn purple and bubble.

Instead, use an ammonia-free, tint-safe glass cleaner or simply a mixture of warm water and a drop of baby soap. Always use a clean, soft microfiber towel. Avoid paper towels, as the wood fibers in them can cause micro-scratches on the film over time.

Does Riverside's Heat Affect the Curing Process?

Yes, and in a good way! The hot sun in Riverside and the Inland Empire actually accelerates the curing process. If you get your car tinted in the middle of a 100°F summer week, your tint might cure in just 2 or 3 days. If you get it done during a cooler, rainy winter week, it could take up to two weeks to fully dry out. Park your car in the sun during the first few days to help it along.

    Long-Term Window Tint Care Tips

To ensure your ceramic window tint lasts for its full lifetime warranty:

    • Be careful when unbuckling seatbelts so they don't snap back and chip the film.
    • Wipe down the interior weather stripping occasionally to remove dirt that could scratch the film when rolling windows up and down.
    • Consider protecting your exterior paint as well with a ceramic coating to keep the whole car looking pristine.
